A browlift (forehead lift) is performed to reduce forehead creases, improve drooping eyebrows, minimize upper eyelid hooding, and improve frown lines located between the eyebrows. Although occasionally still performed by making an incision across the scalp, the majority of procedures are now performed with the use of a small endoscope and require only a few very small incisions located in the scalp. The procedure takes one to two hours and can be performed with local or IV sedation or general anesthesia. Patients may experience temporary swelling, numbness, bruising, and headaches. Risks include nerve injury, infection, minor hair loss, numbness in the scalp, and uneven eyebrows. Patients may usually return to work within five to ten days; more strenuous activity should be limited for three weeks or more. Results usually last from five to ten years.
