Breast Augmentation: Your Embarrassing Questions Answered

Breast Augmentation in Louisville: Questions You're Embarrassed to AskIf you’re considering breast augmentation in Louisville, and you’re doing your research (and I hope you are), you likely have come across answers to a number of frequently asked questions, including those about implant type, size, and incision location. But there are some questions you just may feel too embarrassed to ask. Here’s a few that have come up in my nearly 2 decades in private practice:

  • I take diet pills. Will this be a problem? Before breast augmentation, you’ll need to discontinue use of all diet pills, whether they are prescription, over-the-counter, or herbal. Many can interfere with anesthesia and have the potential to cause cardiovascular issues. This is an important detail that you’ll want to share with your doctor during your consultation.
  • Will I be constipated after my surgery? As with any surgery, you may experience constipation during your recovery. This is normal and can be caused by the anesthesia and the prescription drugs you’ll be given for pain relief. However, if you do not have a bowel movement within a day or 2, you may take over-the-counter laxatives.
  • When will I be able to enjoy a glass of wine or alcoholic beverage? I advise my breast augmentation patients in Louisville to avoid alcohol for about 1 week before surgery and 1 week after surgery. Alcoholic beverages can interfere with anesthesia and affect blood clotting. You’ll have plenty of time later on to toast to your newly enhanced figure.

It’s normal to feel anxious or maybe even a bit embarrassed when asking questions about plastic surgery. But you must ask. Chances are very good that your board-certified plastic surgeon has heard your question before.

Also, I have found a patient’s comfort level has everything to do with the environment. Choose a plastic surgery center that goes above and beyond to provide you with a private space where you can speak confidentially with the doctors and nurses.
