Our Louisville, KY practice offers a range of surgical and non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation procedures that are increasingly popular among women with aesthetic or functional concerns about this sensitive area. Surgical vaginal rejuvenation procedures are performed by dual board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Nana N. Mizuguchi and plastic surgeon Dr. Chet Mays.

Surgical Vaginal Rejuvenation
Vaginal rejuvenation surgery includes procedures that tighten the internal vaginal tissues or improve the aesthetic appearance of the labia, which may be naturally large or become misshaped after childbirth. The various surgical procedures encompassed by the term vaginal rejuvenation include both labiaplasty and vaginoplasty. It is also possible to surgically remove the hood of the clitoris, restore the hymen, and enhance the sensitivity of the vaginal wall with collagen injections.
The most common surgical vaginal rejuvenation procedures include labiaplasty and vaginoplasty.
This is the most common vaginal rejuvenation surgery. Dr. Mizuguchi and Dr. Mays reduce the labia minora in an outpatient procedure that involves using a local anesthetic combined with sedation. Labiaplasty can repair damage caused during childbirth and relieve irritation and discomfort experienced during sexual activity or activities such as bicycling. It can restore fullness to the labia majora after menopause and improve your self-esteem if you're self-conscious about the appearance of your labia. Learn more about labiaplasty.
Unlike labiaplasty, vaginoplasty is often a functional or reconstructive procedure that's designed to reduce the size of the vaginal canal. Even though it typically isn't done to treat the vagina's external appearance, vaginoplasty may reduce the visibility of protruding tissue or a wide opening.
Vaginal muscles often lose strength and tightness because of childbirth and age, diminishing sensation and reducing the pleasure experienced during intimate sexual contact for both partners. Internal vaginal changes after pregnancy can also lead to embarrassing problems such as stress incontinence. While surgical vaginoplasty is a common solution to these problems, our surgeons offer the non-surgical ThermiVa™ procedure instead.
Non-Surgical Vaginal Rejuvenation
The increasing interest in vaginal rejuvenation has led to the introduction of safe and effective non-surgical treatments to tighten both the labia and the vagina. We are proud to offer ThermiVa, a temperature-controlled radiofrequency treatment that uses heat to promote the production of collagen. This is the same proven technique used for decades in facial rejuvenation procedures.

ThermiVa is one of several treatments available with the ThermiRF™ system and is a comfortable, non-surgical, no-downtime radiofrequency treatment that tightens the labia and vagina. ThermiVa rejuvenates the vaginal area for women who:
- Feel "loose" vaginally since having children or after menopause
- Have trouble reaching orgasm
- Occasionally leak urine when coughing, sneezing, or exercising
- Feel their intimate relationships are suffering because of these changes
Noticeable improvement often occurs after 2 ThermiVa treatments, but we recommend 3 treatments to get the optimal results. Treatment sessions last about 30 minutes and are scheduled a month apart. No anesthesia is necessary to undergo the procedure, and patients may engage in sexual intercourse the same day of the treatment. The long-lasting results improve the cosmetic appearance of the vagina, in addition to reviving patients' sexual pleasure and helping reduce urinary incontinence.
