Improvements From Breast Augmentation
The reasons for choosing breast augmentation may differ between patients, but most have thought about making the change for months or even years. Our surgeons perform this procedure to provide one or more of the following improvements:
- Increased breast size
- Enhanced cleavage
- Restored volume after pregnancy, breastfeeding, and weight loss
- Balance and proportion with the lower body
- Breast symmetry
While breast augmentation increases size, it does not reduce breast sagging significantly. During your consultation, your surgeon will determine whether he will need to combine your breast augmentation with a breast lift to provide the improvements you want.
*Keep in mind that each patient is unique and your results may vary.
How We Personalize Your Procedure
Breast augmentation involves many options that, when chosen properly, will help you attain the fuller breasts you want while fitting with your body, personal preferences, and lifestyle. Our surgeons provide beautiful results by carefully choosing the following with the patient in mind:
- Breast implants can be filled with saline or silicone, and come in a wide range of shapes, sizes, and profiles. We offer the innovative Sientra® silicone implants, which are available only to board-certified plastic surgeons such as Dr. Calobrace and Dr. Mizuguchi.
- Incisions can be in the armpit, under the breast fold, or along the lower edge of the areola.
- Placement of implants either directly behind the breast tissue (subglandular position) or under the pectoralis muscle (submuscular position).
Our surgeons use the advanced VECTRA® 3-D imaging system to show you how you could look with different implant options.
About Breast Augmentation Surgery
Our surgeons usually perform breast augmentation as an outpatient procedure, so you are able to return home the day of surgery. You are placed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist. The surgery takes about 1 to 3 hours to complete.
After making the incisions, your plastic surgeon creates a space for each breast implant, called the pocket, either directly behind the breast tissue or under the chest muscle. He then positions an implant within each pocket and visually inspects your breasts to make sure he's achieved your desired breast size and a naturally attractive shape. The incisions are then closed with sutures and sealed with surgical tape.
Strong and safe, yet remarkably soft and natural feeling, these advanced breast implants are available in a range of shapes and sizes for the most personalized results.LEARN MORE
What to Expect During Recovery
Recovery from breast augmentation depends on several factors including whether your implants are placed under or on top of the chest muscle, the type of incision, and the size of your implants, but generally follows this timeline.
First 1 to 2 Days
Most patients experience minor soreness and swelling. Sleeping in a recliner or propped up with pillows will help you sleep on your back and minimize swelling. Your plastic surgeon will prescribe oral pain medication you can use to control discomfort, if needed. Expect to be up and walking on the day of surgery, but not driving. Also consider arranging care from a friend or family member for the first 24 hours following surgery, and possibly a day or so longer.
You will have a follow-up appointment approximately 3 to 6 days after surgery.
Return to Work
Most patients are ready to return to their everyday activities within 1 to 2 weeks.CaloSpa Rejuvenation Center
Other Things to Know
You will need to avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activity for one month or more as directed by your surgeon. Scars will fade gradually from pink to white within several months to a year.
Is it safe to combine breast augmentation with other plastic surgery procedures?
When performed by an experienced plastic surgeon, breast augmentation can be safely combined with other procedures such as a tummy tuck and liposuction. Women appreciate attaining multiple improvements with a single surgery and recovery period.
My breasts are different sizes. Can breast augmentation help even them out?
Yes. The human body is often naturally asymmetrical. When it comes to the breasts, we can balance their sizes by placing an implant in the smaller breast only or by placing implants of different sizes to enlarge both breasts (one more than the other).
I had breast augmentation a month ago and my breasts look high and tight? What can I do?
After breast implants are placed, the breast skin and chest muscle take a few months to stretch and relax — allowing the implants to "drop and settle" into a natural, attractive shape. In most cases, patience is all that is required. You can call our office or wait until your next follow-up appointment to discuss your concerns with your surgeon.
